Currahee Gravel Grinder
A bucket-list race in the mountains of North Georgia, the Currahee gravel grinder explores the southeastern edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The 70km race route highlights pristine forest service roads with amazing views of the surrounding area. As you journey along the beginning of the route, the 1900’ Currahee Mountain stands in the distance taunting you. At the base of Currahee Mountain sits Camp Toccoa, where American paratroopers trained for WW2 air raids. (That camp, and this mountain, is featured in the movie Band of Brothers; you’ll climb the road filmed in the opening scene.) Starting from The Community House in Cornelia, you’ll hammer gravel roads steeped in history and local lore, a challenging 3 mile section of single track, a “cool but refreshing” creek crossing, and, of course, Currahee Mountain! The 40km route features the same beautiful scenery, but it eliminates the heart pounding climb up Currahee Mountain.Register Race Regulations Who's Registered?
