Shake 'N Brake Gravel Grinder

Shake 'N Brake Gravel Grinder

COURSE DIFFICULTY: 5 out of 10

Launched in 2015, this gravel grinder is a choose-your-own-adventure day on a bike, with 25K and 50K courses that rattle and hum through the Talladega National Forest. Each course is a rowdy mix of rocky Forest Service roads and single track trails that can be ridden on a mountain bike or a cyclocross rig. Each has advantages and disadvantages, so choose your weapon wisely—there are no separate categories based on the bike you ride. And remember, as Ricky Bobby always said, “If you ain’t first….you’re last!”

“It was truly epic, thanks to weather (wet) and trail conditions (sloppy). I opted for the 50K challenge to ride with friends without the pressure of racing, and just completing it was the toughest 1-day event I’ve ever done.”
—Maaike Everts, Breck Epic singlespeed world champion
