Course Details

While this course is on the short side for a gravel race, but it has a similar distance to our Assault on Currahee Mountain…but with more elevation! Don’t let the distance fool you. This one is no cake walk!

The start/ finish area will be at Petty-Fairy Valley Park in Crandall, GA. The course will travel on paved access roads for 2.5 miles before reaching gravel. Once you reach gravel, you’ll begin the climb to the top of Potatopatch Mountain. Along the way you’ll pass countless rhododendrons, majestic waterfalls, and several breath-taking overlooks! There will be three aid stations on the long course!

The descent from the top of Potatopatch on Old CCC Camp Rd is breathtaking in a different way. It is blistering fast, filled with switchbacks, and contains more than a few washboards. Past the Bear Creek Overlook, the course will take a very sharp left onto Wilderness Road (passing between P1 and P2). The course continues with a right onto Shakerag Road and a right onto Mulberry Gap Road before finally hitting a paved finish back to Petty-Fairy Park!

The short course features a climb to aid station 1, and a return back to Petty-Fairy Park. Unfortunately, small loops are not available in the Cohutta Wilderness. The looped routes available there are long, longer, longest!
